The LARQ Filters are carbon-based and, in order to get the best performance, use a BPA-free, phthalate-free, food-grade, plastic structure around the filters to achieve consistent performance.
As far as disposal, typically, only the outer plastic casing of traditional filters can be recycled, and it is not recommended to recycle/compost the filter media as it captures heavy metals and contaminants. With that said, while the LARQ Filter is not recyclable, we designed our filter to use, as mentioned above, plant-based carbon for our filter media to decrease our overall carbon footprint and to last 50% longer than conventional filters (possibly longer!). We do prioritize minimizing our environmental impact and are exploring recycling/ take-back programs, however, we do not have anything in place at this time.
